Job Description

SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant

Want real experience in Early Years while you build your SEN skillset?

Support a reception class and keep the classroom running smoothly.

*** SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £80 - £100 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Hodge Hill
*** 1:1 and classroom support in a reception class

Day to day:
Work alongside the class teacher to keep learning clear and calm. Break tasks into small, workable steps. Use visual timetables and now/next prompts. Help with routines, transitions, and regulation. Lead short activities in early phonics, number, fine motor and language. Record brief progress notes so next actions are obvious.

You bring:
A patient manner, tidy organisation, and plain-English communication. You follow plans, spot triggers early, and keep sessions warm and purposeful.

Requirements
  • Degree – 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear, confident spoken and written English.
  • Enhanced DBS – Held already or willingness to obtain.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Strong interest in EYFS, SEN and pupil wellbeing.
  • Experience working with children – Any relevant experience (nursery, mentoring, volunteering) is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ Hodge Hill primary is two-form entry with settled, predictable EYFS routines from drop-off to home time. Reception is well resourced with zoned indoor and outdoor areas, continuous provision that is refreshed daily, and a consistent phonics programme with daily practice. Staff plan together and share quick observation sheets, language prompts and ready-made activity cards, so you are not reinventing resources. Inclusion is embedded. The SEN team runs plan–do–review cycles, keeps visual supports and sensory tools close by, and uses regulation spaces proactively. New staff receive a structured induction, weekly bite-size CPD, and short coaching drop-ins with clear next steps. You get the conditions to show impact quickly and build a strong case for ITT or Educational Psychology routes.

How to Apply
Send your CV and include your availability and DBS status. Add two referees if you have them. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief call and an in-school observation. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
