Job Description

SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant

Ready to build real SEN expertise while getting paid?

Use your steady, empathetic approach to help children with Autism learn comfortably and make steady gains.

*** SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £90 - £105 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Ward of Selly Oak
*** 1:1 and small group support for children with Autism

Your day:
Work closely with the SENCO and class teacher to provide calm, structured support. You’ll split learning into simple steps, use visual timetables/now-next prompts, and rehearse routines so transitions feel predictable. Expect a blend of in-class scaffolding and short withdrawal sessions focused on communication, regulation, and core literacy/numeracy. You’ll capture brief notes and share next actions so support stays consistent.

You bring:
Clear communication, patience, and tidy organisation. You follow plans, spot triggers early, and adapt without fuss—keeping the pupil engaged while building independence.

Requirements
  • Degree – 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Confident, plain-English written and verbal skills.
  • Enhanced DBS – Held already or willingness to obtain.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Strong interest in SEN, behaviour and pupil wellbeing.
  • Experience working with children – Any relevant experience (SEN support, mentoring, tutoring, volunteering) is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ Selly Oak primary is two-form entry with calm, well-ordered classrooms and simple behaviour routines that everyone understands. Inclusion is embedded: the SEN team runs regular plan–do–review cycles, provides ready-made visuals and sensory tools, and offers access to regulation spaces when pupils need a reset. Reading is a whole-school priority (systematic phonics lower down; daily guided reading and vocabulary work in KS2), while maths is taught in small, connected steps with frequent retrieval. New colleagues receive a clear induction, shared intervention packs, and weekly bite-size CPD; coaching drop-ins give precise, usable next moves—great conditions to show impact quickly and build a portfolio for Educational Psychology or ITT.

How to Apply
Email your CV and note your availability and DBS status (include two referees if possible). Shortlisted candidates will have a brief phone screen and an in-school observation. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
