About Us: We are a nurturing primary school located in Clapham dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. We are currently seeking a compassionate and skilled Teaching Assistant to work one-to-one with a Year 1 student with high autism needs.
Job Overview: As a Teaching Assistant in our Year 1 class, you will provide specialized support to a student with autism, helping them engage with the curriculum and develop social and academic skills. Your role will be crucial in creating a positive and encouraging learning environment tailored to the student’s unique needs.
Key Responsibilities:- Work one-to-one with a student with high autism needs, providing personalized support and encouragement.
- Assist the class teacher in implementing tailored lesson plans and strategies to support the student’s learning.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes the student’s engagement and participation in classroom activities.
- Help the student develop social skills and independence through structured activities and play.
- Monitor and record the student’s progress and behavior, providing feedback to the teacher and parents as needed.
- Collaborate with external professionals (e.g., speech therapists, educational psychologists) to support the student’s development.
- Assist with classroom management and promote positive behavior among all students.
- Participate in relevant training and professional development to enhance your skills in supporting students with autism.
Qualifications:- Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special educational needs.
- Strong understanding of autism spectrum disorders and strategies for support.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach to working with young learners.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Level 2 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.
