We are currently recruiting for an experienced
Senior Housing Benefit Appeals Officer to join a Local Authority team on a contract basis. This role is focused exclusively on appeals work and requires a specialist with strong experience managing complex cases through reconsideration, escalation and Tribunal stages.
The Role You will be responsible for managing a caseload of Housing Benefit appeals, ensuring cases are progressed efficiently and in line with legislation, policy and Tribunal requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and submitting Housing Benefit appeal cases
- Managing reconsiderations and escalated appeals
- Preparing detailed appeal submissions and legal documentation
- Representing the Council at Tribunal hearings
- Liaising with internal teams, legal representatives and external stakeholders
- Ensuring compliance with current Housing Benefit legislation and guidance
- Maintaining accurate case records and meeting strict deadlines
Essential Requirements- Significant recent experience working specifically within Housing Benefit Appeals
- Proven experience preparing appeal submissions and reconsiderations
- Experience attending and representing cases at Tribunal hearings
- Strong knowledge of Housing Benefit regulations and appeal procedures
- Ability to manage complex caseloads independently
Working Arrangements- Primarily remote/home-based role
- Occasional office meetings required
- Attendance at several Tribunal hearings each month is essential
