Job Description

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an on-site Maintenance Electrician to work at HMP Morton Hall.
The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, worked across 7 days, with a 1 in 3 weekend shift pattern in place. This includes an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary. As part of the role, you may also be included in an on-call rota; when on standby, a generous allowance is paid. Optional overtime is also available.
HMP Morton Hall offers a unique working environment that balances structure with openness. With a strong focus on safety, rehabilitation, and community, the site provides a professional yet approachable setting. The establishment is performance-recognised, reflecting the high standards and commitment of the team on site.
This is not a typical prison environment. The site features open areas and a spacious layout, with just five accommodation blocks, making it a more manageable and less confined setting.
The Maintenance Electrician plays a key role in ensuring planned and reactive maintenance works are completed safely, compliantly, and on time.
You will be part of a supportive and diverse team of approximately 20, with a strong work ethic. Work is typically completed independently alongside one other on-site Electrician, with the option to buddy up for health and safety when required.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure Health & Safety standards are met across the contract
  • Test and inspect electrical installations in line with current IEE Wiring Regulations (installation work makes up approximately 10–20% of the role)
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns, ensuring all work is carried out safely and efficiently
  • Carry out planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including diagnosing and replacing failed domestic electrical components
  • Actively fault find and resolve issues on domestic electrical systems
  • Monitor, manage, and order critical spares for all electrical services
  • Oversee and monitor the BMS system
  • Support zero carbon and sustainability initiatives
  • Undertake additional duties as directed by the line manager
What We’re Looking For:
  • Relevant technical qualification (e.g. City & Guilds 2365 Parts 1–3, BTEC, or NVQ Level 3 or above)
  • BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations – 18th Edition
  • Knowledge and experience of electrical systems and Electricity at Work Regulations
  • Proven experience in electrical maintenance, distribution, installation, and testing
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Comfortable working at heights
We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and are committed to equal opportunities.
Prison Security Clearance is required – full support will be provided throughout the clearance process.
