Are you an experienced and passionate Qualified Social Worker ready to take the next step in your career? We're looking for a skilled Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join a committed team in Greater Manchester, supporting improved outcomes for children and young people across the region.
This is a fantastic opportunity to play a pivotal role in safeguarding and care planning, while working within a supportive and well-managed local authority.
🔍 About the Role
As an IRO, you will:
- Chair Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences, Children Looked After Reviews, and Foster Carer Annual Reviews in line with statutory guidance and timescales.
- Promote timely, child-centred planning and ensure the voice of the child remains central to all reviews and decision-making processes.
- Monitor care plans and challenge delays or deficits in planning or service provision.
- Provide professional oversight and independent scrutiny to support the best outcomes for children.
- Collaborate effectively with social workers, managers, external agencies, and families.
👤 Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a confident, knowledgeable, and experienced social work professional who:
- Is a Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England
- Has 4+ years’ post-qualifying experience in children’s social care
- Understands Child Protection legislation, care planning, and statutory responsibilities
- Has strong chairing, mediation, and negotiation skills
- Is able to build and maintain effective relationships with children, families, and professionals
- Takes a creative, reflective, and solution-focused approach
- Can work effectively within multi-agency settings and advocate for timely, appropriate interventions
- A dedicated consultant with access to all roles across the UK
