Lead Occupational Therapist
Location: East Yorkshire  
Pay rate:  £34 per hour

Are you a Occupational Therapist ? Then we have an exciting opportunity for you, as a member of the Occupational Therapy Team. Are you interested in in joining a highly professional team committed to continuous service improvement, that is results driven and quality focused? In this role you will provide a client centred approach to assisting people with complex disabilities to achieve their maximum level of functioning and independence in their own homes. Occupational Therapy interventions focus on adapting the environment, modifying the task, teaching skills and educating clients and families in order to eliminate environmental barriers to independence.

In this role you will:
  • Assess and provide appropriate client centered Occupational Therapy intervention assisting people with disabilities to achieve their maximum level of functional independence.
  • Supervise and facilitate the development of The Disability Resource Team Staff including Occupational Therapy Assistants, Occupational Therapists (PT 31), Sensory, Duty, Joiners, and Blue Badge staff.
  • Provide professional assessment, advice and training to service users, carers, relatives and professionals with core and specialist equipment.
  • Assess complex clients and make recommendations for major and minor housing adaptations that maximizes resources.
  • Assess and provide specialist equipment to meet complex needs in the most cost effective way.
  • Assess and provide moving and handling provision including prescribing and demonstration of equipment to meet complex service user’s needs.
  • Expedite and facilitate hospital discharges.
  • Assess and provide reablement interventions to regain functional independence.
  • Carry out independent mobility assessments to facilitate the provision of blue badges.
  • Provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessments in a Prison Setting and in response to requests from care management for specific assessments.
  • Support continuing professional development of the team.
  • Above principal accountabilities are not exhaustive and may vary without changing the character of the job or level of responsibility
 
The ideal candidate will have:  
  • A Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy Nursing or Physiotherapy two years post-registration experience and current registration;
  • Ability to produce clear and concise written reports;
  • Ability to demonstrate strong team working skills including working in a multi-disciplinary team and liaison with relevant bodies;
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation pertaining to disability;
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas - provision of major adaptations or moving and handling or paediatric equipment/children with complex needs;
  • Extensive experience of visiting disabled and/or older people in their home;
  • A good understanding of the aims of the service in relation to meeting the needs of older and disabled people
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of individuals ;
  • A full driving licence and access to a car (for which essential car user is payable).
