Location: Carmarthen
Employment Type: Temporary (agency) – vacancy cover
Number of Positions: 1
Start Date: 1 December 2025
Duration: 13 weeks (until 27 February 2026)
Hours: 37 hours per week (Mon–Fri, core 09:00–17:30 – occasional flexible/earlier/later shifts or weekend community events with notice)
Salary: PAYE: £13.26+ per hour | Umbrella: £17.15 per hour
Hybrid Working: Minimum 2 days per week in the office (Carmarthen) + home working the rest

Love the environment and fancy making a real difference? Carmarthenshire County Council is looking for a motivatedWaste Minimisation & Recycling Assistant to join the friendly Waste & Environmental Services team in Carmarthen.

What You’ll Do (and it’s varied!)

• Update the council’s recycling website pages and respond to social media enquiries
• Use Excel to capture data, monitor performance, and help schedule team work
• Identify low-participation areas and support targeted education campaigns
• Handle resident enquiries, complaints, and requests by phone, email, and in person
• Attend occasional community events (with plenty of notice)
• Contribute ideas to help Carmarthenshire hit Welsh Government recycling targets

We Need From You

• Strong written & verbal communication skills (English Level 5 essential; basic Welsh spoken Level 2 or willingness to learn – free support provided)
• Confident using Excel (setting up simple spreadsheets & basic formulas)
• A genuine interest in recycling and the environment
• Excellent customer service manner and the ability to stay calm when residents are frustrated
• Team player who’s happy to roll sleeves up and get stuck in
