Learning Support Assistant Location: Newcastle
Salary: £14.00 per hour
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm
Start Date: ASAP

About the Role:
We’re currently recruiting on behalf of a specialist independent school in the Newcastle area for a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join their friendly and supportive team.

This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs and associated learning differences to reach their full potential.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll work closely with teachers to provide individual and small-group support, helping pupils engage with learning and develop essential life skills. Each day brings new challenges and rewards as you see the difference your support makes in helping children grow in confidence, independence, and resilience.
If you are patient, caring, and motivated to make a positive impact this could be the perfect role for you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support teachers in delivering high-quality, inclusive lessons tailored to pupils’ individual needs.
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to help pupils access the curriculum.
  • Promote personal, social, and emotional development through encouragement and positive relationships.
  • Assist in preparing engaging classroom materials and maintaining a supportive learning environment.
  • Help manage pupil behaviour and reinforce positive approaches to learning.
  • Uphold all safeguarding policies and child protection procedures to ensure pupil wellbeing.
What We’re Looking For
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • A full UK driving licence – some travel between school sites may be required.
  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational or support capacity (desirable but not essential).
  • Excellent communication, empathy, and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine passion for helping children and young people thrive.
About the School
Our client is a well-established independent special school supporting pupils aged 10–18 years with SEMH needs and additional learning difficulties such as autism, ADHD, and attachment-related challenges.
The school offers a nurturing, structured environment with small class sizes and a strong focus on emotional wellbeing and personal growth. Staff are dedicated to helping every pupil build confidence, develop independence, and achieve meaningful outcomes both in and beyond the classroom.
