About the Role:
Network Recruitment Wales is thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for a Loader to join the Recycling and Waste team in Caldicot, Monmouthshire, for a 12-week temporary role starting 23 June 2025. This position is perfect for someone passionate about delivering high-quality waste and recycling services as part of a one-off community project. Working under the supervision of the Area Supervisor or Deputy Supervisor, you’ll help keep Monmouthshire clean, safe, and sustainable by collecting waste and recycling materials efficiently and professionally.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect waste and recycling (food waste, garden waste, residual waste, hygiene waste, dry recycling, and trade waste) from households and businesses as per collection schedules.
  • Ensure collections are completed on time, leaving areas clean, safe, and tidy, with receptacles returned to their original locations without obstructing pathways.
  • Monitor recycling bins for contamination and follow appropriate procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness of collection vehicles and equipment, reporting defects promptly.
  • Interact with the public in a professional, polite, and courteous manner, handling basic enquiries.
  • Adhere to Health & Safety policies and safe working practices to ensure a secure environment for all.
  • Undertake additional tasks as needed, such as litter picking, town centre sweeping, or safe removal of sharps (with relevant training).
  • Complete paperwork and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Work at other depots if required (transport provided where possible, or mileage claimable at the council’s rate).
  • Be available for occasional out-of-hours work, including bank holidays (double time pay plus a bank holiday leave day) and potential emergency responses (e.g., flooding, snow clearance).
What We’re Looking For:
  • Experience: Experience in a similar operational environment (e.g., waste collection or manual labour) is desirable but not essential.
  • Skills: Good communication skills, ability to work effectively in a team, and self-motivation to perform tasks without close supervision.
  • Attributes: Physically fit for repetitive lifting and outdoor work in all weather conditions, with a commitment to delivering a high-quality service to residents and businesses.
  • Licence: Must hold a valid driving licence (a clean licence is desirable but not essential).
  • Knowledge: Understanding of Health & Safety practices is an advantage.
  • Desirable: Willingness to undertake relevant training, including sharps awareness or other operational certifications.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work outside core hours when required, including bank holidays and potential emergency responses.
Candidate Requirements:
  • Eligible to work in the UK.
  • Provide a Criminal Convictions Declaration and Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Submit a CV with 2 years of references/work history.
  • Hold a valid driving licence.
Why Choose This Role?
  • Contribute to a cleaner, greener Monmouthshire through a high-impact community project.
  • Work in a supportive team with all necessary training and personal protective equipment provided.
  • Enjoy a varied, active role with up to 31 days of holiday (pro-rata) and access to a wide range of council benefits.
  • Opportunity for progression, including potential training for car or HGV licences for the right candidate.
  • Ideal for those seeking a temporary summer role with meaningful community impact.
