Salary: PAYE: £13.69 per hour | Umbrella: £17.73 per hour
Are you an experienced and reliable operative with a passion for maintaining green spaces and supporting local communities? Network Recruitment Wales is seeking a Grade 3 General Labourer / Assistant Gardener to join Neighbourhood Services on a temporary basis to cover a vacancy pending permanent recruitment. This role is based within the Cemeteries and will support essential grounds maintenance services across the County Borough.
This is a great opportunity to contribute to the upkeep of parks, cemeteries, and public open spaces while working as part of a dedicated and flexible team.
What You’ll Do: • Carry out a wide range of horticultural and grounds maintenance duties with minimal supervision.
• Grass cutting using pedestrian and ride-on mowers.
• Use hand tools including strimmers, hedge cutters, blowers, and other gardening equipment.
• Litter picking, bin emptying, and general site cleanliness.
• Marking football fields and maintaining playing surfaces, including fine turf repairs.
• Soil cultivation, digging, planting, pruning, weeding, mulching, and lawn maintenance.
• Assist the Arboricultural Team when required.
• Drive council vehicles and pull trailers (subject to appropriate qualifications).
• Assist with seasonal bedding, landscape schemes, and planting programmes.
• Ensure tools, machinery, vehicles, and storage areas are kept clean, safe, and well maintained.
• Adhere to Health & Safety legislation to ensure a safe environment for colleagues and the public.
• Work flexibly across Neighbourhood Services departments (including Parks, Waste, Highways, Street Cleansing, and Cemeteries) as service priorities require.
• Undertake training as required and support service resilience.
What We’re Looking For: • Qualification to a minimum of Level 2 City & Guilds or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
• Experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, or outdoor operational work.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• A flexible and adaptable approach, with willingness to work across service areas.
• Awareness of Health & Safety practices in an outdoor working environment.
• Experience driving work vehicles and using grounds maintenance machinery is desirable.

• Criminal Convictions Declaration.

• Minimum of 2 years’ references/work history.
