Job Description

Job Advert: HGV Technician 
Location: Newtown, Powys
Employment Type: Temporary – 20 weeks (very high chance of extension)
Start Date: Monday 1 December 2025
Hours: 37 per week
Mon–Thu 08:00–16:00 | Fri 08:00–15:30
Salary: PAYE: £14.63+ per hour | Umbrella: £18.61 per hour
Overtime: Regularly available & paid at enhanced ratesThe Fleet
150+ vehicles – everything from 32-tonne rigids & tippers to winter gritters, refuse wagons, sweepers, tractors and specialist plant.

The Job
  • Full planned maintenance & safety inspections (DVSA standard)
  • Fault diagnosis (using latest diagnostic tools)
  • Servicing, MOT prep & repairs
  • Parts ordering & stock control
  • Occasional winter out-of-hours call-out rota (extra pay)
You Need
  • Level 3 qualification in HGV/LGV (or current IRTEC Advanced / DVSA Tester)
  • Solid experience on Class 2 & Class 1 vehicles (refuse, tippers, gritters an advantage)
  • Full Category C licence (or willing to get it within 2 years – paid for by the council)
  • Category B licence (essential)
  • Live within sensible commuting distance of Newtown
