Business Support Assistant to join
Monmouthshire County Council’s Children’s Services Team in Usk for a
20-week temporary assignment. This is a varied, rewarding role supporting Social Work teams in delivering essential services to children and families across the county.
With a combination of office-based and agile working, this position is ideal for someone with strong administrative experience, attention to detail, and excellent IT skills who thrives in a busy, collaborative environment.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide responsive, high-quality administrative support to Children’s Services teams.
- Manage correspondence, safeguarding referrals, and information requests with professionalism and accuracy.
- Maintain and update electronic records and databases, ensuring data integrity during system transitions.
- Handle tasks such as photocopying, scanning, room bookings, and minute-taking for meetings.
- Support financial processes including petty cash handling and monitoring expenditure.
- Assist with recruitment and HR-related administrative tasks.
- Act as a first point of contact for incoming calls and enquiries, ensuring clear communication and excellent customer service.
- Support digital systems (e.g., PLANT) — creating, maintaining, and closing case files in line with statutory requirements.
- Contribute to continuous service improvement through feedback and proactive problem-solving.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience in administration or customer service (public sector or social care desirable).
- Strong IT and data management skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management systems.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, with accuracy and attention to detail.
- A proactive, reliable team player with a “can-do” attitude.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a busy environment.
- Must live within 30 minutes’ drive of Usk for office-based days.
Essential Requirements:
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Two years’ references/work history.
- Enhanced DBS check (Children’s and Barred List).
- Confidentiality Agreement and Criminal Convictions Declaration.
