About the Role:
Network Recruitment Wales is seeking a dedicated and reliable Caretaker to join a dynamic team for a 6-week temporary assignment, supporting a one-off event/project. This part-time role involves maintaining and managing premises in Newport, ensuring they remain secure, functional, and well-presented. The successful candidate will play a key role in upholding high standards of safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Open and close the premises during evenings and weekends as per agreed schedules.
  • Ensure all windows and doors are securely locked, maintaining general site security.
  • Respond to out-of-hours call-outs for security issues, emergency repairs, or to facilitate contractor access to the main site and off-site storage facilities.
  • Take reasonable steps to prevent unauthorised access to the grounds, liaising with police when necessary.
  • Arrange keyholder coverage during holiday periods in consultation with management.
  • Ensure fire signage and equipment comply with legal standards, conducting weekly fire alarm tests and supporting organised fire drills.
Heating, Lighting, and Water:
  • Monitor and maintain effective operation of lighting and heating systems.
  • Adjust boiler settings as required, based on weather conditions or management instructions.
  • Locate and monitor stopcocks, gas, and electricity meters, taking readings as needed.
  • Keep the boiler room tidy and free of flammable materials.
  • Replace light bulbs/tubes as necessary.
Grounds Maintenance:
  • Sweep paths, collect litter, and remove debris from paths, grassed areas, flower beds, and entrances.
  • Empty communal rubbish bins as required.
  • Keep hard surfaces free of moss and weeds, and clear gullies, drains, and gratings.
  • Regularly disinfect drains and dustbins.
Handyperson Duties:
  • Carry out basic repairs and maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Assist with keeping all areas of the premises tidy, including moving stock (primarily musical instruments).
  • Transport stock between the main premises, off-site warehouses, and local schools as required.
Candidate Requirements:
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK.
  • Must provide a Criminal Convictions Declaration and CV at submission.
  • Must sign a Confidentiality Agreement upon offer acceptance.
About You:
We’re looking for a proactive individual with a hands-on approach to maintenance and security. You’ll need to be flexible, with the ability to work evenings and weekends, and respond to occasional out-of-hours call-outs. Experience in caretaking, basic repairs, or grounds maintenance is advantageous, along with a commitment to maintaining a safe and tidy environment.
