Are you a hands-on, team-oriented individual with a passion for keeping highways safe and accessible? Network Recruitment Wales is recruiting two Highways Operatives to join a dedicated highways maintenance team for a 26-week temporary role. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to essential highway services, ensuring the safety and satisfaction of the travelling public and business community in South East Wales.
What You’ll Do:
- Carry out a range of highway maintenance tasks, including potholing, drainage maintenance, grass cutting, fencing, litter picking, and working with bituminous materials, masonry, and paving.
- Operate small plant and tools such as rollers, breakers, compactors, and disc cutters, as well as a wheeled loading shovel.
- Perform basic setting out of work and work to precise levels, maintaining accurate work records (including electronically where required).
- Ensure all tasks are completed safely in line with Health & Safety legislation and policies.
- Participate in winter maintenance duties and standby rota arrangements as needed.
- Work collaboratively within a team, under the direction of the Highway Foreman, to deliver high-quality maintenance services.
- Engage courteously with the public and report any unsafe practices or equipment to the supervisor.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience: Ability to perform heavy physical manual duties for prolonged periods and experience operating construction plant (e.g., rollers, breakers, compactors).
- Skills: Strong team player with the ability to work with minimal supervision, follow instructions, and maintain basic work records. Good literacy and familiarity with personal electronic communication equipment are essential.
- Personal Qualities: Courteous, reliable, and committed to health & safety, including wearing designated PPE and uniforms. A positive attitude towards equal opportunities is a must.
- Requirements:
- Valid UK driving licence.
- Willingness to undertake training to enhance skills and health & safety awareness.
- Flexibility to work outside normal office hours when required (e.g., standby rota for winter maintenance).
- Eligibility to work in the UK, with two years of references/work history provided at submission.
- Ability to provide a Confidentiality Agreement and Criminal Convictions Declaration upon offer acceptance.
