Job Description

Graduate Teaching Assistant

Could this be the classroom experience that gives you a real head start before teacher training? Are you looking for a primary school role where you can learn from experienced staff while making a genuine difference to pupils day to day?

*** Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 – July 2027
*** £80 - £95 per day
*** Large primary school, Ward of Yardley
*** Gain valuable experience prior to teacher training

The Role:
Work across the school supporting pupils through a mix of 1:1 help, small-group work, and general classroom assistance. You will reinforce learning in core subjects, help children stay engaged, prepare simple resources, and support teachers with the day-to-day routines that keep lessons running smoothly. Teaching assistants commonly support teachers in the classroom and help children with reading, writing, and wider learning activities.

The Candidate:
You are adaptable, positive, and able to communicate clearly with both pupils and staff. You want practical primary school experience, you are keen to understand what effective classroom support looks like, and you see this role as a strong step towards teacher training and a future in teaching. Primary teachers are responsible for the educational, social, and emotional development of children aged 3 to 11, which makes this kind of school-based experience especially useful before training.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher and build a long-term career in education.

The School:
This large primary school in the Ward of Yardley offers the chance to build broad classroom experience in a busy setting where teamwork, consistency, and pupil support matter. You will join a staff team that values practical help, clear routines, and graduates who are serious about developing in education. Current DBS eligibility guidance, updated on 20 January 2026, confirms that work with children can be eligible for an Enhanced DBS check in the child workforce, with regulated activity roles also potentially requiring a Children’s Barred List check.

How to Apply
Apply today with your CV to be considered for this Graduate Teaching Assistant role. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted to discuss next steps and arrange interview. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the high number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
