Job Description

Graduate Nursery Teaching Assistant

Could you give young children the support they need to settle, join in, and enjoy school from the start? Are you looking for early years’ experience that gives you a proper grounding before teacher training?
*** Graduate Nursery Teaching Assistant

*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £85 - £105 per day
*** Large primary school, Yardley
*** Support EYFS pupils in the classroom

The Role:
Support Nursery and wider EYFS pupils in the classroom through play-based learning, routine-based support, and day-to-day classroom assistance. You will help children engage in activities, develop early communication and social skills, prepare simple resources, and work alongside the class teacher to keep the classroom organised and purposeful. The EYFS framework is mandatory for early years providers in England and sets the standards to help children learn and develop well, while teaching assistants support teachers in the classroom and help children with learning activities.

The Candidate:
You are patient, approachable, and comfortable working with young children at an important stage of their development. You enjoy being active in the classroom, supporting early learning, and helping children build confidence through encouragement, consistency, and clear routines. This role suits a graduate who wants practical experience in early years before moving into teacher training. Early years teachers specialise in early childhood development and work with children up to the age of 5.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher and build a long-term career in education.

The School:
This large primary school in Yardley offers the chance to build valuable early years’ experience in a busy setting where teamwork, patience, and classroom support matter. You will join an EYFS team that values practical help, clear routines, and positive relationships, giving you useful day-to-day exposure to how schools support younger children as they begin their education. Recent government guidance confirms the EYFS framework remains the core statutory standard for school-based early years provision.
