Job Description

Graduate Maths Academic Coach

Do you want a full academic year in a ‘Good’ secondary school, helping KS4 pupils turn weak topics into secure marks through focused 1:1 and small group support?

*** Graduate Maths Academic Coach
*** September 2026 to July 2027 (Academic Year)
*** £85 - £105 per day
*** ‘Good’ secondary school, Ward of Edgbaston
*** 1:1 and small group academic support across KS4 Maths

The Role:
You will support Year 10 and Year 11 pupils who need extra input to improve GCSE maths outcomes. You will deliver planned 1:1 and small group sessions focused on the topics that cost pupils marks: number fluency, FDP, ratio, algebra, graphs, geometry, and problem solving. You will also support in class when needed, modelling first steps and keeping pupils working with pace.

Each session will follow a consistent routine: quick recap, model, guided practice, independent attempt, then a short check to confirm the method is secure. You will use simple diagnostics to spot misconceptions early and tighten the next session. You will teach pupils to set out work clearly, show working, and check answers, reducing repeated errors under timed practice. You will record brief outcomes and feed back to the teacher so support stays aligned to current topics and mocks.

The Candidate:
You bring clear explanations, calm authority, and strong numeracy. You keep expectations high and break concepts into small steps.

  • Degree at 2:2 or above, maths or a related subject fits well
  • Confident supporting KS4 maths, including number, algebra, ratio, graphs, and geometry
  • Comfortable delivering 1:1 and small group sessions with clear aims and routines
  • Experience with young people through tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, or volunteering is desirable
  • Professional approach to safeguarding, confidentiality, and behaviour expectations
  • Enhanced DBS required, plus right to work checks, references, and standard school vetting

The School:
You will work in the Ward of Edgbaston, in south-west Birmingham. You will join a ‘Good’ school with clear systems, where maths intervention is planned into the week and linked to classroom teaching. You will get direction on focus pupils, priority topics, and resources from the start, with regular feedback so your support stays sharp.

Apply Now:
Send your CV to be considered. If shortlisted, you will get a call to confirm availability, experience with young people, and confidence supporting KS4 maths. Checks follow, then the school stage is arranged in good time for the start date.

Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
