Job Description

Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant

Do you want a full year in a primary school where you build serious SEN experience, while supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, and social, emotional, and mental health needs?

*** Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 until July 2027
*** £90 - £105 per day
*** Primary School, central Telford
*** Support SEN children with Autism, ADHD and EBD

The Role:
You will work across the school day supporting pupils with additional needs, both 1:1 and in small groups. You will help pupils access learning, manage emotions, and build independence through consistent routines and clear expectations. You will follow support plans set by the SENCO and class teacher, so pupils get the same approach across lessons, breaktimes, and transitions. You will support attention and task-start through chunked instructions, visual prompts, short timed tasks, and planned movement breaks. You will support regulation through calm check-ins, predictable language, and early de-escalation before behaviour blocks learning. You will also deliver targeted sessions to build communication, social interaction, and core learning skills where gaps affect progress. You will keep brief, factual notes on what worked and what changed, then feed back to staff so support is reviewed and adjusted through the assess, plan, do, review cycle.

The Candidate:
You bring empathy, structure, and professional boundaries. You spot patterns, stay calm under pressure, and keep routines steady. You want school-based experience before postgraduate training or a longer-term pathway in educational or clinical psychology.

  • Degree at 2:2 or above, ideally Psychology or a closely related subject
  • Clear interest in SEN, child development, mental health, or psychology pathways
  • Confident supporting pupils with Autism and ADHD through practical strategies and consistent routines
  • Comfortable working 1:1 and leading small groups with clear aims and simple progress checks
  • Experience with children through schools, care, mentoring, tutoring, youth work, or volunteering is desirable
  • Professional approach to safeguarding, confidentiality, and behaviour expectations
  • Enhanced DBS required, plus right to work checks, references, and standard school vetting

The School:
You will join a central Telford primary school with a strong inclusion focus and clear classroom routines, so pupils know what to expect and staff respond consistently. SEN support is planned into the week, with targeted sessions, structured in-class strategies, and regular review points so support stays purposeful and progress stays visible. You will work alongside staff who share information and align on approaches, so pupils receive joined-up support rather than mixed messages. You will get clear direction on priority pupils, strategies, and reporting lines from the start, so you settle quickly and build impact across the year.

Apply Now:
Send your CV to be considered. If shortlisted, you will get a call to confirm availability for September 2026, your experience with children, and your confidence supporting SEN needs. Checks follow, then the school stage is arranged in good time for a September start.

Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
