Job Description

Graduate Teaching Assistant

Do you want a long-term secondary role where you support SEN pupils 1:1 and in small groups, with clear routines and measurable progress?

*** Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £85 - £100 per day
*** Secondary school, Wednesbury
*** 1:1 and small group support within SEN

The Role:
You will work within the SEN team to support pupils across KS3 and KS4 who need targeted help to access learning. Your week will include a mix of in-class support and structured 1:1 or small group sessions, built around agreed outcomes. You will help pupils stay organised, start tasks, sustain attention, and complete work with fewer prompts over time. You will adapt support to need, using clear instructions, chunked tasks, visual prompts, planned check-ins, and calm reset routines during lessons and transitions. You will support literacy and numeracy where gaps block access to the curriculum, plus study skills such as planning, editing, and exam preparation routines when appropriate. You will follow pupil plans and strategies set by the SENCO and pastoral teams, then share brief, factual feedback so staff can review impact and adjust support using the assess, plan, do, review cycle.

The Candidate:
You bring patience, consistency, and clear communication. You build trust through routines and boundaries. You stay calm when pupils struggle, and you keep expectations steady.

  • Degree at 2:2 or above in any subject
  • Comfortable supporting pupils with a range of SEN needs, including attention, regulation, and communication differences
  • Confident delivering 1:1 and small group sessions with clear aims and tight routines
  • Experience with young people through tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, care, or volunteering is desirable
  • Professional approach to safeguarding, confidentiality, and behaviour expectations
  • Enhanced DBS required, plus right to work checks, references, and standard school vetting

The School:
You will work in Wednesbury, within the Sandwell area, in a secondary school where inclusion and access to learning are priorities. You will join a setting where SEND support is planned and shared across staff, so pupils receive consistent strategies across subjects. Expect clear systems, a strong pastoral link, and a SEN team that values routine, early intervention, and practical support that keeps pupils in learning. You will get day-to-day direction on priorities, resources, and who to report to, so your support stays focused and purposeful from the start.

Apply Now:
Send your CV to be considered. If shortlisted, you will get a call to confirm availability, experience with young people, and confidence supporting SEN pupils. Checks follow, then the school stage is arranged quickly due to the immediate start.

Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
