Job Description

SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant

Do you want a long-term 1:1 role where you help a student with ADHD stay focused, organised, and ready to learn across the school day?

*** SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £85 - £100 per day
*** Secondary school, Wednesbury
*** 1:1 support for a student with ADHD

The Role:
You will provide consistent 1:1 support for a student with ADHD across lessons, social times, and transitions. Your focus is access to learning, attention, and self-management. You will work alongside class teachers, the SENCO, and pastoral staff so strategies stay consistent across subjects. You will help the student start tasks promptly, stay on task, and complete work with less prompting over time. You will use agreed routines such as clear step-by-step instructions, chunked tasks, visual reminders, short movement breaks, timed work periods, and calm check-ins at key points in the day. ADHD often impacts concentration, impulse control, and organisation, so your support will prioritise predictable structure and quick resets when focus drops.

You will keep brief, factual notes on what helps and what triggers difficulties, then feed back to the team so support tightens over time. Your work will sit within the graduated approach used in schools, where support is assessed, planned, delivered, and reviewed based on impact.

The Candidate:
You bring calm consistency, clear boundaries, and the patience to stick to routines even on challenging days. You build trust through reliability, not big speeches. You stay professional and focused on progress.

  • Degree at 2:2 or above in any subject
  • Confidence supporting young people with attention, organisation, and regulation needs
  • Comfortable working 1:1 and reinforcing agreed strategies across lessons
  • Experience with young people through schools, tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, care, or volunteering is desirable
  • Clear communication with staff, able to share concise updates and follow direction
  • Strong approach to safeguarding, confidentiality, and behaviour expectations
  • Enhanced DBS required, plus right to work checks, references, and standard school vetting

The School:
You will work in Wednesbury, within the Sandwell area, in a secondary school with a strong focus on inclusion and access to learning. The school runs clear routines and expectations, with SEND and pastoral teams working closely with teaching staff. You will receive day-to-day guidance on the student’s priorities, strategies, and lesson support, so you are not left guessing. The role is built around one student, so expectations stay clear and impact is easy to track from week to week.

Apply Now:
Send your CV to be considered. If shortlisted, you will get a call to confirm availability, experience with young people, and confidence in a 1:1 ADHD support role. Checks follow, then the school stage is arranged quickly due to the immediate start.

Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
