Job Description

Exam Invigilators

Do you want flexible work in a secondary school during the GCSE exam season?

*** Exam Invigilators
*** Dates in May and June
*** £12.80 per hour (half-day and full days available)
*** Secondary school, Edgbaston
*** GCSE exam supervision and exam room support

The Role:
You will support the exams officer and lead invigilator to run GCSE exams in line with JCQ exam conditions. You will help set up rooms, remove or cover display materials, and check seating is set as required. During exams, you will welcome candidates in, support identity checks in line with the centre process, give the key announcements, start timing, and keep the room silent and focused. You will stay alert for unauthorised items such as phones and smart watches, respond to issues through the correct reporting route, and follow procedures for late arrivals, temporary absences, and disruptions. At the end of each paper, you will stop the exam, supervise the collection of scripts, and support secure handover to the exams team. You will also follow the school’s safeguarding expectations at all times and escalate any concern immediately.

The Candidate:
You bring calm control to high-pressure rooms and follow instructions without drifting off into daydreams. You stay professional, discreet, and consistent, so candidates sit their exams under fair, secure conditions. You work well in a team, take direction from the exams officer, and treat exam integrity and safeguarding as non-negotiable.

  • Reliable and punctual, available across May and June for half-day and full-day shifts
  • Strong attention to detail, confident following exam rules and checklists
  • Calm presence, able to manage a room and deal with low-level issues professionally
  • Clear communication, able to give exam announcements and instructions confidently
  • Comfortable working around secondary-age pupils in a formal setting
  • Enhanced DBS required, or willingness to complete one before starting

The School:
This Edgbaston secondary school is well organised and runs clear exam-day routines. You will work alongside an experienced exams team with structured processes, clear briefings, and support throughout the season. The school sets high expectations for conduct and professionalism, so you will know what good looks like from day one.

Apply Now:
Send your CV to be considered for the May and June exam dates. If shortlisted, you will receive a call to confirm your availability across the exam window, your suitability for exam supervision, and the shift patterns you want. Safeguarding and compliance checks will follow, including Enhanced DBS and references, then you will receive a briefing on exam rules, room procedures, and reporting lines before your first shift.

Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
