Job Description

Graduate Teaching Assistant

Want solid KS1 experience before teacher training?

Support pupils through focused 1:1 and small-group work that lifts progress.

*** Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £81 - £94 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
*** 1:1 and small group support across KS1

The Role:
You will run short, planned sessions that mirror what the class is learning. In reading you will secure phonics, common exception words and fluency. In writing you will model simple sentences, punctuation and neat handwriting, then guide pupils to practise independently. In maths you will build number bonds, place value within 100 and reliable methods for addition and subtraction using concrete and pictorial models. You will pre-teach key vocabulary before new topics, use quick checks to spot gaps, and fix misconceptions with clear, step-by-step examples. You will keep brief notes after each session, update trackers and agree next steps with the class teacher so support stays aligned with upcoming objectives. You will help keep the room calm and organised, and follow safeguarding and behaviour routines at all times.

The Candidate & Requirements:
You explain ideas in small, clear steps and keep pupils on task. You notice gaps early and build independence without over-prompting.

  • Degree, 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication, strong written and spoken English.
  • Enhanced DBS, held already or willingness to obtain.
  • Desire to work in education or with children, commitment to KS1 progress.
  • Experience working with children is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ Wolverhampton primary uses simple, consistent routines from arrival to home time. Phonics and matched reading are protected each day. Maths is taught in small, connected steps with regular low-stakes checks so methods stay consistent across classes. Year teams co-plan and share model texts, worked examples and ready-to-use intervention packs, which keeps preparation efficient and ensures your sessions line up with classroom teaching. New colleagues receive a clear induction, weekly bite-size CPD and focused coaching with practical next moves.

How to Apply
Apply through the job advert with your CV. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief call and an in-school observation. Roles may close early if filled.

Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
