EYFS Graduate Teaching Assistant Want practical Early Years experience before teacher training?
Help children build early language, number and social skills through purposeful play.
*** EYFS Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £80 - £90 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
*** 1:1, small group and general class support
The Role:
You will support Nursery and Reception across the day so learning feels calm and predictable. You will set up and rotate continuous provision, prepare simple resources, and keep areas tidy so children can access activities independently. You will run short adult-led tasks in phonics, early number and fine motor skills, then plug those gains back into play. You will use visual timetables and now/next prompts to guide transitions. You will model rich talk at children’s level, extend play with clear questions, and coach turn taking and sharing. You will provide steady 1:1 support where needed, record quick observations, and share next steps with the class teacher and SENCO. You will follow behaviour and safeguarding procedures and help with routines at drop-off, snack, outdoor learning and home time.
The Candidate & Requirements:
You are patient, organised and clear in your language. You follow guidance closely, notice what motivates each child, and adapt without fuss so pupils grow independence.
- Degree, 2:2 or above in any subject.
- Communication, confident written and spoken English.
- Enhanced DBS, held already or willingness to obtain.
- Desire to work in education/with children, strong interest in EYFS and child development.
- Experience working with children, nursery, school or volunteering experience is desirable but not essential.
The School:
This ‘Good’ Wolverhampton primary is multi-form entry with calm, consistent EYFS routines from drop-off to home time. Indoor and outdoor areas are well resourced with clear zones for role play, construction, small world, mark making and sensory exploration. Phonics runs daily with matched reading practice. Early maths follows small steps with practical models and frequent retrieval, so methods stay consistent between classes. Staff co-plan and share ready-to-use activity cards, language prompts and observation sheets, which keeps workload sensible, and intervention aligned. Inclusion is embedded through plan–do–review cycles, easy access to visual supports and regulation spaces, and regular check-ins with the SENCO. New colleagues receive a structured induction, weekly bite-size CPD and short coaching drop-ins with precise, usable next moves.
