Job Description

Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant

Looking for experience that genuinely feeds into Educational Psychology or teacher training?

Use your psychology background to remove barriers to learning for pupils with additional needs.

*** Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** November 2025 start, July 2026 finish
*** £85 - £110 per day
*** ‘Good’ school, North Solihull
*** 1:1 and small group support within SEN

What you’ll do:
Work with identified pupils to deliver structured 1:1 and small-group support. You’ll break learning into clear stages, use visual scaffolds and predictable routines, and coach regulation and social-communication skills. Expect short, evidence-informed interventions in literacy and numeracy, quick progress check-ins, and tight coordination with class teachers and the SENCO so strategies stay consistent.

Who you are:
A psychology (or related) graduate who is calm, observant and clear in your communication. You follow plans carefully, know when to pause or simplify, and can build trust without over-prompting. You’re reflective, organised, and turn feedback into action.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in psychology.
  • Communication – Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Enhanced DBS – Held already or willingness to obtain.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Evident interest in SEN, child development and wellbeing.
  • Experience working with children – Any relevant experience (SEN support, mentoring, tutoring, volunteering) is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ North Solihull school serves a diverse community and runs calm, well-structured classrooms backed by clear behaviour routines. Inclusion is a strength: the SEN team leads regular plan–do–review cycles, provides ready-to-use visual supports, and keeps access to regulation spaces for pupils who need a reset. Reading sits at the centre of the curriculum (systematic phonics and daily guided reading), while maths follows a small-steps approach with frequent retrieval and manipulatives where helpful. You’ll join a staff who co-plan, share high-quality resources, and run brief coaching drop-ins with actionable next moves. New starters receive a structured induction and weekly CPD so you can make impact quickly and build a strong portfolio for EP/Assistant Psych routes or ITT.

How to Apply
Send your CV and include your November availability, DBS status, and two referees if possible. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief phone screen and an in-school interview/observation. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
