Job Description

Primary Graduate Teaching Assistant

Want paid, real-world classroom experience before teacher training?

Support under-achieving pupils catch up and keep up with smart, well-structured support.

*** Primary Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £81 - £101 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
*** Support and guidance for under-achievers

What you’ll do:
Work with pupils who need an extra lift in reading, writing and maths. You’ll run short, sharp intervention blocks, pre-teach key content, and provide 1:1 catch-up alongside small-group boosters. Expect to set up simple resources, model strategies (e.g., chunking, retrieval, worked examples), and log quick progress notes so next steps are clear for the class teacher.

Who you are:
A graduate who explains ideas plainly, keeps sessions purposeful, and builds trust quickly. You’re organised, responsive to feedback, and motivated by measurable gains—especially for learners who’ve lost confidence.

Requirements
  • Degree – 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear, confident written and verbal skills.
  • Enhanced DBS – Held already or willingness to obtain.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Real commitment to inclusion and pupil progress.
  • Experience working with children – Any relevant experience (tutoring, mentoring, volunteering) is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ Wolverhampton primary serves a diverse community and runs tight, predictable routines so classrooms stay calm and purposeful. Reading is a whole-school priority (robust phonics lower down; guided reading and vocabulary work in KS2) and maths is taught through consistent small-step sequences with daily retrieval. Year teams plan together and share ready-made intervention packs, model answers and assessment checklists—so you’re never starting from scratch. New staff receive a structured induction, weekly bite-size CPD, and coaching drop-ins with actionable feedback, helping you make impact quickly and build a strong case for initial teacher training.

How to Apply
Send your CV and include your availability, DBS status, and (if possible) two referees. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief call and an in-school interview/observation. Apply early—the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
