Job Description

Maths Academic Coach – Salaried School Direct Route

Ready to start your teaching journey in a paid, on‑the‑job teacher training programme? This salaried School Direct opportunity in Central Birmingham is ideal.

*** Maths Academic Coach
*** £115–£125 per day
*** Temp to Perm – September 2025 start
*** ‘Outstanding’ secondary school, Central Birmingham
*** Provide 1:1 and small group maths support (KS3 & KS4) – lead into teacher training

The Role
  • You’ll deliver targeted 1:1 and small group support in mathematics, helping students tackle topics from number work to exam skills.
  • You’ll collaborate with the maths department to identify gaps, reinforce learning, build confidence, and prepare pupils for GCSEs.
  • As part of a salaried School Direct programme, you’ll gradually take on more teaching responsibilities while working towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

The Paid Route into Teaching (salaried) route offers paid, school-based teacher training—no tuition fees, just real in-school experience and professional mentorship. You’ll be employed as an unqualified teacher, with day-to-day responsibilities and structured training delivered by your school and university or SCITT partner.
  • Training covers classroom practice, pedagogy, and assessment, supported by experienced mentors. You’ll also spend time in partner schools or associated university sessions.
  • At the end of the year, you’ll receive QTS—and often a PGCE qualification if included—as part of this employment-based route

The Candidate
You’re a maths (or related) graduate with:
  • A strong academic record and experience in tutoring or coaching.
  • Confidence in explaining maths concepts and adapting to individual learner needs.
  • Resilience, professionalism, and a genuine drive to launch an effective teaching career.

The School
This ‘Outstanding’ secondary school in Central Birmingham is well-known for its high standards and focus on staff development.
  • Join a strong maths team committed to growing teaching talent.
  • Benefit from personalised mentoring, clear CPD, and a confident culture of excellence.
  • You’ll start on a salaried contract, with a clear path into fully qualified teacher status and a permanent teaching position.

What You’ll Get
  • Earn£115–£125/day while training—paid from day one.
  • Gain QTS (and possibly PGCE) at no extra cost.
  • Grow in a top-rated school, with structured support and real career progression.
  • Avoid tuition fees and debt compared to traditional university PGCE routes.

This School Direct opportunity blends paid employment with professional teacher training. You’re in the classroom, earning, learning, and preparing for a teaching career—all in one year.

If you’re ready to start your teaching journey confidently and without the financial strain of university fees—apply now.

Due to high interest, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
