Job Description

Childrens Social Worker – Somerset
Family Safeguarding Team (Mendip)
Rate: up to £38 per hour

We are recruiting for motivated qualified social worker to join our busy team. This role is with one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving as one of the best places to live and work in.

This is a qualified role requiring you to be SWE registered and have relevant experience within children’s services.

Within our Family Safeguarding Teams, you will be able to work alongside adult-focused practitioners, working within our teams, in the specialist areas of substance misuse, domestic abuse, and mental health, to inform assessments and plans. You will also work with children and families who are experiencing challenges around complex neglect, sexual harm, physical harm, risks outside of the home including child exploitation, and parental learning difficulties.

Here in Somerset, our manageable caseloads let you be the innovative and creative social worker you want to be – undertaking direct work with children and young people to hear their voice and understand their experiences. You will work with parents and the wider family network, with access to Family Group Conferencing, to support them to identify strengths, tackle problems and change interactions and behaviours. With permanent and experienced Team Managers, you'll be well supported with regular and reflective group and personal supervision.

What we’re looking for:

  • You will need to be a qualified social worker registered with Social Work England and have experience working with children and families in social work, within a Local Authority team.
  • Experience of work within family courts is essential.
  • You will be passionate about relationship-based social work, proud of your profession, and able to reflect and think creatively about how you can build relationships to make a positive difference to children and families and empower families to make and sustain changes.
  • You will be a competent IT user, able to use or learn to use LiquidLogic.
  • You will need to hold a full driving licence and have access to your own vehicle as travel is required within our beautiful county.

The team for the Mendip area is based in Shepton Mallet, and we offer flexible hybrid working, combining time spent with the teams in the office along with home working.

We are proud to offer an environment that is supportive and rewarding, within a friendly team who are passionate about the work that they do to improve the lives of people in Somerset. We are continuing to develop our use of motivational interviewing to support families with identifying opportunities for change and working to achieve and sustain this alongside them, with the support of our multi-agency partners. You will be encouraged to attend our weekly CPD sessions, and supported to attend training.

This is an agency post and Pertemps can offer you.

  • An easy registration process (all done online)
  • Referral schemes and incentives
  • Ongoing compliance managed for you
  • Prompt and reliable payroll and lots more
