SEN Teaching Assistant – SEN School (Autism & Complex Needs)
Location: Norwich, Norfolk
Pay Rate: £109–£135 per day
Contract: Full-time | Term-time only
Start Date: ASAP
A specialist SEN school in Norwich is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis.
The school supports children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated needs, including communication differences, sensory processing needs, emotional regulation challenges, and anxiety. Pupils benefit from a highly personalised, structured, and therapeutic approach to learning, particularly those who have found mainstream education challenging.
About the Role As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils across the school day, supporting both learning and wellbeing. The school offers a broad curriculum alongside life skills, physical education, and therapeutic activities.
The school has an on-site swimming pool, and pupils take part in structured swimming lessons as part of their programme. Due to this, the school is particularly keen to hear from candidates who hold a valid lifeguard qualification, as you may be required to support and supervise pupils during swimming sessions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with Autism and complex needs
  • Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and sensory needs
  • Assist with behaviour support strategies and engagement in learning
  • Promote independence and life skills development
  • Support pupils during physical education and swimming sessions
  • Act as a lifeguard during swimming lessons where required
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and pupil welfare
Essential / Desirable Requirements
  • Experience supporting children or young people with Autism and SEN
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • Valid lifeguard qualification (highly desirable due to swimming provision)
  • Confidence working in a specialist SEN environment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice
What’s On Offer
  • Competitive daily rate of £109–£135, depending on experience
  • Supportive and well‑established SEN setting
  • Access to ongoing training and professional development
  • Opportunity to make a meaningful difference to pupils’ lives
Safeguarding This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
