Assistant Headteacher – Attendance and Inclusion – Birmingham An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Assistant Headteacher to join a thriving secondary school in Birmingham on an interim basis for the remainder of the academic year. This role is ideal for a compassionate, strategic, and proactive school leader who can make an immediate impact on attendance, behaviour, and inclusion.
The school has a positive and collaborative atmosphere, strong leadership, and a clear commitment to supporting every student to succeed. The successful Assistant Headteacher will work closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to ensure that attendance continues to improve, inclusion remains at the heart of school practice, and all pupils have access to an environment where they can thrive academically and personally.
Job Role:- Leading on whole-school attendance, inclusion, and behaviour strategies
- Working closely with pastoral and safeguarding teams to ensure every student receives appropriate support
- Developing effective systems to track, monitor, and improve attendance and engagement
- Supporting teaching and support staff in managing behaviour and promoting a culture of respect and high expectations
- Building strong relationships with families, external agencies, and community partners to ensure a joined-up approach to inclusion
- Acting as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to whole-school strategy and improvement
Requirements:- Proven experience as an Assistant Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, or senior leader within a mainstream secondary school
- Strong knowledge of inclusion, attendance, safeguarding, and behaviour management
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and lead others
- A data-driven and solution-focused approach to improving outcomes for pupil
- Ability to make an immediate positive impact in a busy, forward-thinking school environment
