Outdoor Education Instructor – SEMH Provision – Tamworth - September 2025 - Term-Time Only

Are you passionate about using the outdoors to transform the lives of young people? A dynamic and forward-thinking SEMH provision in Tamworth is looking for an experienced Outdoor Education Instructor to join their team and work with students who have been excluded from mainstream education. This is a unique opportunity to make a real impact through outdoor learning, helping students develop confidence, resilience, and essential life skills.

As an Outdoor Education Instructor, you will work with small groups of Key Stage 3 and 4 students, delivering structured outdoor learning activities that support both academic progress and social-emotional development. You’ll have the freedom to create engaging sessions in bushcraft, team building, navigation, and other practical skills, while also managing behaviour and encouraging positive participation. Experience working with students with social emotional and mental health needs or challenging behaviour is desirable. This role requires a relevant outdoor education qualification and an enhanced DBS on the update service.

Job Role:
  • Delivering outdoor education sessions to small groups of students with SEMH needs.
  • Using outdoor learning to build confidence, teamwork, and self-regulation.
  • Supporting students’ emotional and behavioural development in a practical setting.
  • Working alongside teaching and pastoral staff to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Managing risk and promoting safety at all times in outdoor environments.
In return, you will enjoy:
  • The opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of young people as an outdoor education instructor.
  • A supportive and experienced staff team who value creative approaches to learning.
  • Access to excellent facilities and outdoor resources.
  • Ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
  • Competitive rates of pay based on your experience and qualifications.
This role requires an Outdoor Education Instructor who enjoys teaching young people about the outdoors, can build positive professional relationships, and understands the challenges that students may face. The school is keen to promote the outdoor education programme and you will have the freedom to tailor your session to meet the needs of students.
