Job Title: Tribunal Officer
Location: West Berkshire Council – Hybrid Working
Contract Type: Interim / Temporary
Rate: £350 - £400 per day (DOE)

Duration: 3–6 months (with potential for extension)
About the Role: We are currently recruiting for an experienced
Tribunal Officer to support the
SEND Team at
West Berkshire Council. This is a vital role providing expert input into the appeals and tribunal process, ensuring the Local Authority meets its statutory obligations under the Children and Families Act 2014.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage and respond to SEND Tribunal appeals, working closely with legal services, case officers, and senior management.
- Draft case statements, witness statements, and responses to directions from the SEND Tribunal.
- Represent the Local Authority at SEND Tribunal hearings where required.
- Liaise with families, legal representatives, and schools to gather evidence and build strong cases.
- Ensure full compliance with tribunal deadlines, maintaining accurate records of all proceedings.
- Contribute to the improvement of internal processes for appeal handling.
Requirements:- Proven experience handling SEND Tribunals within a Local Authority setting.
- Strong working knowledge of SEND legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage competing deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
- Legal background or previous attendance at tribunals is highly desirable.
Working Arrangement: Hybrid model with flexibility – ideally 2 days in the office (West Berkshire), remainder remote working.
