Job Description

SEN Teaching Assistant – Specialist School (Ages 9–19) – Southwest London
Location: Southwest London
Start Date: ASAP or January 2026
Contract: Full-time, Long-term
Role: SEN Teaching Assistant (Key Stage 3–5)

A highly regarded specialist school for young people aged 9–19 is seeking enthusiastic, patient and committed SEN Teaching Assistants to join their vibrant and supportive team. All students have EHCPs, and the school prides itself on providing exceptional support, a nurturing environment, and a strong focus on developing independence and life skills.
About the School

The school supports learners with a wide range of needs, including:
  • Mild to moderate Autism
  • Speech, language and communication needs
  • Emotional or social barriers to learning
  • Sensory or medical needs (for a small number of students)
Students typically join from mainstream primary schools where they have previously required 1:1 support. Due to smaller class sizes of 8–10 pupils, high staffing levels and a collaborative approach, this is not required in this setting.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
  • Support students across Key Stage 3, 4 and Post-16 in lessons, pastoral time and structured activities.
  • Assist within mixed-ability / mixed-needs tutor groups in KS3.
  • Support English and Maths ability groups where targeted intervention is key.
  • Encourage independence, emotional regulation and resilience.
  • Support life-skills development, travel training and work-experience preparation.
  • Help deliver enrichment activities such as clubs, community visits and residential trips.
  • Work alongside teachers, therapists and the wellbeing team to ensure students receive holistic, tailored support.
What the School Offers
  • Small class sizes (8–10 pupils) and a highly supportive staff team.
  • A broad and varied curriculum including a wide range of accredited courses at KS4.
  • Extensive enrichment opportunities including residential trips and after-school clubs.
  • A strong Post-16 programme focused on functional life skills and confidence-building.
  • Access to a multidisciplinary wellbeing and emotional support team (counselling, play therapy, dramatherapy).
  • Ongoing academic tracking and specialist input from the Cognition & Learning Team.
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN (ASC, SLCN, SEMH or mild–moderate learning needs).
  • A calm, encouraging and patient approach.
  • Confidence supporting students aged 9–19.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and build positive relationships with learners.
  • Willingness to take part in enrichment activities and life-skills programmes.

If you are passionate about helping young people grow in confidence, independence and wellbeing, we’d love to hear from you.
