Location: Hammersmith & Fulham (Minimum 2 days per week in-office/on-site)
Rate per hour: £33 per per hour Umbrella

About the Role
As an Economic Development Officer, you’ll be at the heart of delivering business engagement and enterprise programmes that empower local businesses to start, sustain, and grow. You’ll work closely with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to:
Support Local Businesses: Deliver innovative business engagement initiatives, commission and manage enterprise programmes, and act as a bridge between key networks such as BIDs (Business Improvement Districts) and council services.
Promote Economic Growth: Enable residents to access opportunities to start and scale businesses through existing support systems or by co-designing new initiatives.
Build Partnerships: Foster relationships with enterprise support agencies, workspace providers, landlords, and property managers to enhance resources and opportunities for local businesses.
Develop Strategic Initiatives: Drive projects that revitalise town centres, focus on key growth sectors, and enhance the borough’s economic landscape, particularly in locations like White City.
Facilitate Enquiries: Manage the business helpdesk and provide tailored support on premises, grants, labour supply, training, and other resources.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate outreach and deliver workshops, training sessions, and networking events to sustain and scale local businesses.
Manage a CRM system to track engagement, report outcomes (businesses supported, jobs created, contracts awarded), and drive continuous improvement.
Provide high-quality written and oral briefings, policy advice, and reports for senior officers, elected members, and stakeholders.
Deliver flagship events, including the H&F Business Awards and seasonal extended markets.
Research and monitor funding opportunities, preparing bids and managing proposals to support innovative economic development projects.
Collaborate with the wider Economic Development Team to deliver strategic goals and provide additional support as needed.
About You
We’re looking for a motivated and strategic thinker with:
Essential:
A relevant degree or professional qualification (or equivalent experience).
Proven success in economic development, local government, or a related field.
A deep understanding of current government policy on business and enterprise, especially within local authority settings.
Strong experience in:
Engaging and influencing internal and external stakeholders.
Commissioning, managing, and monitoring suppliers delivering business and enterprise initiatives.
Supporting businesses through strategic and operational interventions.
Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in IT tools, including CRM systems and data analysis software.
Desirable:
Qualification in project management.
Familiarity with the economy of Hammersmith & Fulham, including key growth areas like White City.
