Job Description

Make a real difference where it matters most. Join Thames Water on the front line of environmental protection, collecting vital wastewater samples from treatment works and industrial sites. In this role, you’ll play a key part in keeping our water systems safe, compliant, and running smoothly, while enjoying the independence of working out in the field and building valuable technical skills in a vital industry

What you’ll be doing as a Wastewater Quality Technician
  • You’ll be on the move, travelling between a variety of sites and working as part of a lively team across a wide area.
  • Driving will be a key part of the role, so confidence on the road is important.
  • Your main responsibility will be collecting and testing wastewater samples from sewage treatment works, trade effluent sites, and rivers.
  • You’ll also manage your own sampling records and maintain equipment, making sure everything meets industry standards.

Base location: Mogden, Isleworth, TW7 7LW

Working hours: 38 hours per week, 7:30am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday

You’ll be part of a standby rota covering 2 weekends in every 7 weeks, which may also include evenings.

What you should bring to the role
  • We’re looking for someone with driving experience who is confident operating a medium-sized vehicle, including in busy, high-traffic areas.
  • A strong eye for detail, with the ability to follow procedures accurately and manage your time effectively.
  • A full, clean manual driving licence is essential.
  • You’ll be well organised, able to plan your own routes, and comfortable working independently to structure your day.
  • Some knowledge of the water industry would be helpful, but it’s not essential. This is a great opportunity to learn and build your experience.
  • Good computer skills and attention to detail are important, as this is a technical role where you’ll be following structured processes.
What’s in it for you?
  • This role will be paid £29,349 per annum.
  • 24 days holiday per year, increasing to 28 with the length of service. (plus bank holidays)
  • Generous Pension Scheme through AON.
  • Access to lots of benefits to help you take care of yourself and your family’s health and wellbeing, and your finances – from annual health MOTs and access to physiotherapy and counselling, to Cycle to Work schemes, shopping vouchers and life assurance.

As part of the screening process, you will be asked to complete a short 30-minute assessment. This helps us understand your suitability for the role and ensures you have the core skills needed to succeed.
