Job Description

At Thames Water, we make a daily difference to the lives of 16 million customers by supplying 2.6 billion litres of water through 32,000km of pipes - keeping taps flowing and toilets flushing. We deliver life’s essential service so our customers, communities and the environment can thrive.

We are looking for an Invoicing Agent to join our Purchase to Pay (P2P) team. As an Invoicing Agent, you’ll play a key role, ensuring invoices are processed accurately and efficiently so suppliers and contractors are paid on time.

What you’ll be doing as an Invoicing Agent
You’ll manage high volumes of invoices and queries, working closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers to continuously improve processes and deliver excellent service.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Processing invoices and credit notes via SAP and resolving exceptions
  • Managing supplier accounts, including statement reconciliation and query resolution
  • Handling invoice-related queries from suppliers and internal teams within agreed SLAs
  • Proactively identifying and resolving payment risks, including overdue accounts
  • Supporting continuous improvement of invoicing and P2P processes
  • Maintaining strong working relationships with requisitioners and suppliers
  • Using reporting tools to improve invoice processing efficiency and accuracy
  • Providing cross-team support, especially to the purchasing function and contributing to wider team objectives

Base location: Hybrid - Clearwater Court, Reading, with occasional travel to other sites as required.

Working pattern: 36 Hours, Monday to Friday

What you should bring to the role
We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys problem-solving, and has a strong eye for detail.

Essential:
  • Experience in a high-volume administrative or transactional role
  • Strong Excel skills (e.g. formulas, VLOOKUPs, pivot tables)
  • Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills (email, phone, and face-to-face)
  • A proactive, solution-focused approach to resolving issues
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Highly organised with a strong customer service mindset
Desirable:
  • Experience in Accounts Payable/Receivable or Purchase to Pay
  • Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems
  • Understanding of VAT and invoicing compliance (HMRC)
  • Experience with invoice automation tools (e.g. OCR, workflows)
  • Knowledge of resolving invoice discrepancies (price, quantity, PO issues)

What’s in it for you?
  • Competitive salary up to £36,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • Annual Leave - 24 days holiday per year, increasing to 28 with the length of service (plus bank holidays)
  • Performance-related pay plan directly linked to company performance measures and targets
  • Generous Pension Scheme through AON
  • Access to lots of benefits to help you take care of you and your family’s health and wellbeing, and your finances - from annual health MOTs and access to physiotherapy and counselling, to Cycle to Work schemes, shopping vouchers and life assurance.
