Lead CNC Turner We are seeking an experienced
Lead CNC Turner to take responsibility for the turning section within our clients machine shop. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to support workflow, quality, and continuous improvement across the department.
Key Responsibilities- Set, operate, and programme CNC lathes (including Y-axis, sliding head, sub-spindle, standard CNC, and manual machines where required)
- Interpret detailed engineering drawings and machine to tight tolerances
- Take ownership of job setup, tooling selection, and process optimisation
- Ensure quality standards through in-process inspection and final checks
- Lead the turning section to meet production targets and delivery deadlines
- Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions
- Liaise with Production Planning to optimise job sequencing
- Maintain tooling, equipment, and housekeeping standards
- Drive continuous improvement to enhance efficiency and reduce waste
- Ensure compliance with health & safety procedures
Skills & Experience Required - Proven experience as a CNC Turner within a precision engineering environment
- Strong experience setting and operating CNC lathes (Fanuc, Haas, or similar controls advantageous)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings accurately
- Experience working to tight tolerances and high-quality standards
- Solid understanding of tooling, materials, and machining processes
- Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing desirable
- Previous leadership or mentoring experience advantageous
- Ideally with offline programming experience with Fusion 360 (not essential)
