Job Description

Do you enjoy problem-solving, juggling priorities and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes? This is an opportunity to join a busy and supportive scheduling team, where your decisions help our field technicians work efficiently and deliver a great service to customers every day. You will work closely with planners, field teams and operational colleagues, playing a key role in the day-to-day success of the operation.


We currently have 2 fixed-term positions available (6-12 months).

What you’ll be doing as a Scheduler
  • Work in partnership with Area Planners to maximise technician utilisation across your designated area.
  • Schedule both reactive and planned maintenance tasks, carefully considering skill sets, priorities, and locations.
  • Monitor and respond to emergency tasks, making real-time decisions regarding resource allocation.
  • Maintain and update schedules to ensure timely completion of work within agreed service levels (SLAs).
  • Handle incoming calls and respond to emails and messages from internal stakeholders.
  • Support planners by identifying and resolving issues or errors in plans.
  • Highlight risks such as unavailable resources or jobs at risk of failure, escalating when necessary.
  • Reprioritise workloads in a fast-moving operational environment.
Base location: Reading, Kemble Court
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 to 15:30 (hybrid working, with up to 3 days working from home)

What you should bring to the role
  • Excellent communication skills, with a confident and friendly telephone manner.
  • Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
  • Experience in fast-paced, customer-focused, or operational environments.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise competing tasks under pressure.
  • Confidence in using IT systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Willingness and ability to learn scheduling and operational systems.
  • Experience in water utilities or similar operational environments is desirable.
