Job Description

The Regulatory Information Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring Thames Water’s compliance with environmental regulations and mitigating enforcement risks related to water discharge non-compliance and pollution incidents. Acting as the operational lead for regulatory information management, this role bridges the gap between strategic enforcement oversight and technical delivery.

What you’ll be doing as a Regulatory Information Manager
  • Assure the preparation of regulatory responses and submissions to the Environment Agency, ensuring factual accuracy, completeness, and alignment with company values.
  • Critically review and approve team submissions as the final stage of assurance before external submission.
  • Line manage and develop a team of Regulatory Advisors, providing coaching, feedback, and support for professional growth.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, the legal team, senior leadership, and external partners such as the Environment Agency and Eversheds
  • Oversee development of team procedures, ensuring adherence to best practice and regulatory requirements, as well as risks and controls of processes.
  • Facilitate business-wide learning from compliance incidents
  • Horizon scan regulatory changes and feed insights to the Reg Information and Enforcement Manager.
Base location – Hybrid – Clear Water Court, Vastern Road, Reading

Working pattern – 36 hours

What you should bring to the role
The essential criteria to help you succeed in this role are:
  • An Environmental Science, Legal, Investigative degree or equivalent qualification
  • Experience of working within environmental compliance, environmental risk & assurance or environmental audit
  • High level of professional writing skills
  • Ability to coach, support, and develop their team
  • Excellent communication skills to communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and senior management, ensuring that everyone is on the same page and understands their responsibilities
 
Extra qualities that would be a great fit for our team:
  • Previous experience of working with regulatory enforcement
  • Relevant experience in an applicable sector, operational role, technical position or knowledge of wastewater and/or clean water processes would be advantageous
