Job Description

We are seeking a Working Supervisor to lead a team in trunk sewer operations, with a strong focus on traffic management planning, contractor coordination, and data reporting in Excel.

This role combines hands-on involvement with leadership responsibilities, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of sewer maintenance and rehabilitation projects.
 
What you’ll be doing as a Trunk Sewer Working Supervisor:
  • Lead and supervise a team of operatives in trunk sewer maintenance, inspection, and repair.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee traffic management plans to ensure public and worker safety during sewer works.
  • Coordinate and manage contractors, ensuring compliance with project specifications and safety standards.
  • Use Microsoft Excel to track work schedules, contractor performance, budgets, and operational data.
  • Prepare reports and dashboards in Excel for management review.
  • Conduct site inspections, risk assessments, and enforce confined space entry procedures.
  • Provide hands-on support when required, working alongside the team to meet project deadlines.
  • Train and mentor staff in sewer operations, safety procedures, and technical skills.
 
Base location: Hammersmith – London - W6 9QD

Working pattern or hours: 38 Hours per week (Mon - Fri), following a shift pattern where 1 in 5 weeks you will be expected to work nights. There will also be a standby rota for which you will receive additional payment. 
 
What should you bring to the role?
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:
  • Proven supervisory experience in wastewater or sewer network operations.
  • Strong knowledge of trunk sewer systems, confined space entry, and wastewater regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data entry, formulas, pivot tables, reporting).
  • Experience in traffic management planning and applying relevant regulations.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Health & Safety certification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent).
  • Confined Space Entry certification required.
 
Additional skills and experiences would be great to have/bring:
  • Experience managing contractors in sewer rehabilitation or capital works.
  • Knowledge of CCTV inspection systems, jetting equipment, and trenchless technologies.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to operational challenges and emergencies.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
