Job Description

As a Technology Roadmap Consultant, you will support the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in designing and implementing the structure of Thames Water’s technology roadmap. Your role will involve developing the roadmap format, engaging stakeholders across the business, and advising on the processes, tools, and skills required to manage it. You will work closely with leaders and subject matter experts to ensure the roadmap is robust, scalable, and aligned with our strategic objectives.

What you’ll be doing as a Programme Manager/Technology Roadmap Consultant

Technology Roadmap Design
Develop a clear, scalable, and adaptable format for Thames Water’s technology roadmap. Ensure it meets business objectives and reflects our strategic direction.

Stakeholder Engagement
Identify and collaborate with key stakeholders across technology and business teams. Facilitate workshops and meetings to gather input and align priorities.

Roadmap Population
Lead the process of populating the roadmap with current and future initiatives, technology upgrades, and strategic goals. Ensure transparency, clarity and traceability across all entries.

Best Practice Implementation
Advise on technology roadmapping best practices. Recommend processes for governance, update cycles, communication and stakeholder engagement.

Capability Building
Assess current internal skills and processes. Design and deliver documentation, training and guidance to ensure the team can manage and evolve the roadmap independently.

Transition and Handover
Provide a structured handover of the roadmap to internal teams. Offer initial support to ensure a smooth and sustainable transition of ownership.

Key relationships
You will work closely with the CIO, CISO, CTO, Head of Enterprise Architecture, Head of Platform Architecture, Enterprise and Platform Architects, Solution and Security Architects, Technical Leads, Data Governance Leads, Portfolio Leads, Product Owners, Project Managers and Business Analysts.

Base location – Clearwater Court – Hybrid
Full Time – 36 hours per week
 
What you should bring to the role
  • Roadmapping Experience: Proven experience developing technology or product roadmaps in complex organisations.
  • Stakeholder Management: Strong facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to navigate differing perspectives and priorities.
  • Strategic and Practical Thinking: A blend of strategic insight with attention to implementation detail.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
  • Process and Capability Building: Experience in process design, training, and building internal capabilities for roadmap management.
  • Roadmap Tools and Frameworks: Familiarity with roadmap tools and best practices for structured roadmap creation and maintenance.
Technical skills and qualifications
  • Architecture Frameworks: Demonstrable knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or Zachman.
  • Architecture Modelling Tools: Experience using BiZZDesign or similar architecture modelling tools for roadmap creation and updates.
Desirable Experience
  • Water Utilities: Understanding of the UK water sector, its operational and regulatory environment and sector-specific technologies like SCADA systems.
