Job Description

As a Senior Engineer within London Infrastructure, you’ll be at the forefront of transforming and modernising our wastewater networks — playing a key role in technical reviews, design discussions, and overseeing projects from concept through to construction. You’ll help prevent sewer flooding, reduce river spills, protect vital assets, and upgrade a historic network that keeps London flowing.

From gravity sewers and rising mains to pumping stations and trunk sewer inspections, you’ll work on a diverse range of impactful projects, including those involving rail crossings, pollution reduction, and structural upgrades to pipe and vehicle bridges — all contributing to a cleaner, more resilient London.

What you’ll be doing
  • Oversee the design development of several wastewater network projects by engineers and consultants from the initial concept design and feasibility stage to contract award.
  • Creating contractual project briefs and reviewing and collating pre-construction information.
  • Identify, analyse, and mitigate project risks, and realise opportunities to enable scope definition and robust contractor pricing.
  • Reviewing preconstruction surveys, drawings, and proposals from our contractors.
  • Assuring that contractors undertake the detailed design and that any design changes are made during construction.
  • Being responsible for providing the Project Teams with the support they need during commissioning and handover of assets.
  • Undertake design reviews, ensuring robust and safe solutions whilst meeting business and operational requirements.
  • Acting as the key contact for the role of CDM Designer or Principal Designer during the initial stages of design, as well as overseeing our contractors to ensure we are meeting our responsibilities as the client.
  • Contributing to improving Technical Asset Standards continuously.
  • Delivering our zero-compromise health and safety attitude to all contractors working on your project.
Work Location: Hybrid basis at Maple Lodge Sewage Treatment works, office and site visits will be required up to 2-3 times a week
Working Hour: 36 hours a week

We’re looking for you to:
  • Hold at least a Civil Engineering HNC or a degree or a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline
  • Be a chartered engineer or approaching chartership status with a relevant professional organisation
    • Working towards other professional qualifications will also be considered.
  • Have experience in wastewater infrastructure projects (design & rehabilitation) in a variety of environments, including urban & environmentally sensitive areas.
  • Have experience working in a highly regulated environment.
  • Have the ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders simultaneously. This includes internal colleagues, site employees and external contractors.
    • Experience working with Highways, Local Councils, & Network Rail would be highly advantageous but not essential.
  • Be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritise your own workload.
  • Understand the principles of project delivery in process industries
  • Understand the decision-making process in the Engineering discipline
  • Understand Health & Safety in the Construction industry with specific reference to the CDM Regulation 2015
  • Have a full, clean driving license. We visit sites to meet with our contractors & complete design reviews and safety audits. Access to appropriate transportation is essential to the role.
What’s in it for you?
