Job Description

We are looking for a Root Cause Business Insight Lead to join Thames Water on a permanent basis.

The purpose of the role is to drive performance, and directly impact pollution reduction, one of the top deliverables for Thames Water. 

Our environmental performance is monitored and evaluated by our regulators using a range of measures, such as our compliance with our environmental permits, and the number and severity of pollutions incidents that we cause, which in turn informs our Environmental Performance Assessment (EPA). 

Your data insight will enable the environmental delivery team to deliver improvement workstreams whilst you aid benefit definition, measurement and reporting. Reporting from your programme will be used to inform critical business decisions, so accuracy and delivery of benefits are essential. 

36 hours per week, Monday – Friday
This is a hybrid role; however, you will be required to travel to different Thames Water Sites a car allowance is provided.

What you will be doing as a Root Cause Business Insight Lead
  • Analyse root causes of pollution incidents, identifying patterns, trends, and underlying issues, including easily available operational data to create an in-depth analysis
  • Extract insights from data to provide recommendations for operational improvements and pollution reduction strategies
  • Improve overall team efficiency through supporting automation of reporting on team and business performance, maintaining key performance indicators and investigating where these deviate from the expected targets
  • Conduct failure analysis and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented solutions, through benefit realisation capture and reporting
  • Collaborate across the organisation and the industry to ensure pollution reduction realisation in our organisation
  • Liaise with our regulators as required, with accurate and timely information
  • As part of the Environmental Performance team, you will be at the forefront of ensuring that Thames Water continue to take a data led approach to reducing pollution incidents
What should you bring to the role?
  •  A passion to improve our environmental performance  
  • Have previous experience from working in a similar role or industry
  • Proven experience conducting root cause analysis (RCA) to identify and resolve operational issues
  • Excellent planning, organisation, and verbal/written communication skills including report writing
  • Understand Environmental Legislation and/or Regulations including CICS & 16_02
  • Understanding of waste network and waste treatment operation
  • Positively influence and work collaboratively with all levels of an organisation to achieve improved business outcomes
  • Project Management, or proven track record in delivering business projects
  • Strong background in Power BI, data visualisation, and database management (SQL, Access, etc.)
  • Full UK driving licence is essential for this role as travelling is required
  • Degree or higher-level qualification in an environmental or science discipline (or equivalent would be desirable
