Job Description

Operational Technology (OT) refers to the digital assets that are at the heart of Thames Water’s operations, providing the essential services for our customers, community, and the environment we serve 24/7, 365 days of the year.
The demand for Operational Technology solutions across the Water Utility industry is increasing significantly, and it is recognised that OT is critical in enabling us to achieve our strategic goals (including reducing leakage and pollutions). Our aim is to embrace and adopt new technologies to drive a digital transformation so we can exceed our customers’ expectations. 

What you’ll be doing as a Compute Engineer
  • Becoming integrated within the OT Compute Team, with shared responsibility for the maintenance, reliability and continuity of all compute infrastructure assets and systems.
  • After the initial probationary period, and when all prerequisites are achieved, 24/7 Out of Hours emergency support and fault rectification for the organisational management control room.
  • Assist technical support in design and delivery including both high- and low-level design as required.
  • Audit and management of domain system security and licences.
  • Delivering updates and upgrades at specified intervals: Application, Operating System, BIOS, Hypervisor etc.
  • Desired training and qualifications: MCSA Certification, Microsoft Applied Skills Certification (Server, SQL), Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, Administration, Architecture.
  • Knowledge of working with scripting languages, ideally PowerShell.
  • It is also necessary to have a good knowledge of IP communications, LAN and WAN and its application, alongside knowledge of, or the ability to learn the industry specific SCADA systems
  • Paired with the ability to act as a Compute Engineer (SME) and demonstrate keeping up with the industry best practice in this area are all essential. Where training has not been achieved, this may need to be provided within the role.
Base location – Hybrid – Hampton Coal Wharf TW12 2ES
Working pattern or hours – Out of hours call out
Necessary requirements for the role - Driving to sites as part of standby and to undertake maintenance activities on site's across the Thames Water area.

What you should bring to the role
  • Experience in maintaining and supporting existing infrastructure, including patching and managing domain system security
  • Familiarity with administering various enterprise applications such as Active Directory, SCCM, VMware, antivirus software (SEP), and cloud services like Azure
  • Proven problem solver with the ability to make balanced decision considering commercial, operational and customer needs
  • Proficiency in maintaining and supporting infrastructure, including patching, licensing, and ensuring system reliability and continuity
  • Strong skills in administering enterprise applications such as Active Directory, SCCM, VMware, and cloud services like Azure
  • Communication Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft
