Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity at Thames Water to join our Home Counties Waste Network team as a Field Engineer.

Your role will be to set up / oversee emergency and planned flow management activity (e.g. tankering and over-pumping) on the sewer network, often collaborating with colleagues in the logistics team and Network Engineers. 

You will also work closely with our civil and non-civil service providers to ensure that network repairs are carried out quickly and efficiently so that flow management activity can be stood down as soon as possible.

Due to the nature of this role a Full UK Driving License is required as you will be expected to travel across a wide area between the North and South Home Counties, Company vehicle, fuel card, PPE and tools are provided.

Base Location: Ryemeads STW - SG12 8JY.
Working Pattern: 38 hours - Monday to Friday, plus the inclusion of an on-standby Rota for which you will receive additional payment.

What you’ll be doing as the Field Engineer
Your time will be split between the office and the field, and you will be responsible for:
  • Working alongside our service providers, carry out infiltration investigations as necessary to identify sewers requiring remedial work. Ensure evidence is documented in a logical and accessible format.
  • Overseeing the installation of flow management arrangements, ensuring plans are executed in a safe and timely manner, with minimal customer and operational disruption.
  • Ensuring hire equipment is managed and promptly returned and logged.
  • Ongoing management of flow management schemes, including contractor supervision, control over variations, health and safety, and management of hire equipment.
  • Carrying out field surveys so playbooks can be developed for new flow management activities, ensuring accurate and sufficiently detailed information to allow designs to be implemented with no issues.
  • Work alongside our suppliers and contractors to ensure all work is completed in a safe and timely manner and by Thames Water's standards and procedures.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, to ensure that flow management works are planned and communicated as appropriate.
  • Carry out contractor auditing, ensuring that all works undertaken meet the Thames Water Health, Safety and Wellbeing standards and are in line with business requirements.
What should you bring to the role?
The essential criteria to help you succeed in this role is:
  • Water Industry experience, ideally in Waste Network, is desirable.
  • Ability to use company IT systems and office software, particularly Excel. (to manage the plant hire list)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, to interact with your colleagues and customers/stakeholders.
  • An uncompromising approach to Health, Safety and Wellbeing.
  • Passion and understanding of how to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
  • Must hold a full UK driving licence.

  • Offering a salary up to £36,000 per annum depending on skills and experience + Van, Tools and PPE provided.

  • Pension: Maximum of 12% = 2x employee contribution.
    Performance Related Pay Plan (PRPP): Max (of salary) = 6%. On Target (of salary) = 3%. 
  • Annual Leave: 24 days holiday per year, increasing to 28 with the length of service. (Plus bank holidays)
  • Contributory pension – Defined Contribution - Maximum of 12% -2x employee contribution.
