Job Description

Here at Thames Water, we’re here ‘to deliver life's essential service, so our customers, communities and the environment can thrive'.  It’s what drives us. It's the reason we all get out of bed in the morning and come to work at Thames.

We know, in the current climate, that’s not easy – but we have a plan and a team of driven people who want to make a difference and turn our company around.  It’s an exciting challenge for the whole business. It’s a tough road here at Thames Water but we’re a purpose driven team who are making a difference and getting the business back on track.

That’s where we need help.  We’re looking for an experienced internal & change communications pro to join the team that’s going to make it happen. This is a 12 month Fixed Term Contract with a view to a more permanent opportunity for the right person.

We’ve recently brought teams together under a new function – It’s called Asset Operations & Capital Delivery (AO&CD) but what that means is all the operational parts of our business.  The teams out there in the vans, fixing and upgrading all our pipes, pumps and plants and our colleagues on the phones talking to our customers each and every day.

It’s the biggest function in our business and you’ll be working with senior stakeholders to develop and implement a communications strategy to support the AO&CD transformation programme.  There is a particular focus on driving it through AO&CD to our colleagues out there delivering one of life’s essential services to our customers every day.

What you will be doing as Employee Communications Manager
  • Working with colleagues across the business to build and deliver engaging communications that improve awareness and understanding of the new operating model, and all the different operational improvements that come from that.
  • Being part of the wider internal comms team and support on our ‘business as usual’ communications and all the work we’re doing on our main business priorities.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of our communication channels; making sure they’re fit for purpose and regularly reviewed as well as looking for opportunities to do things better through digital channels (i.e. intranet, social media, E-newsletters, digital screens)
  • Working with colleagues across the Corporate Communications team to make sure all our messaging is lined up.  What we say inside, reflects what we say outside.
What you should bring to the role
  • A strong previous track record of communications, change and campaign handling essential, internal communications or communications consultancy experience preferred
  • Experience in video creation and editing beneficial
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiating skills
  • An excellent standard of written and spoken English
  • Familiar with MS office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
What’s in it for you?
  • Competitive salary to £60,000 per annum depending on experience
  • Annual Leave - 26 days holiday per year increasing to 30 with the length of service. (Plus bank holidays)
  • Contributory pension – Defined Contribution - Maximum of 12% -2x employee contribution
  • Personal Medical Assessments – Open to all once a year
  • Wider benefits scheme including our benefits hub, which is packed full of offers and information to save you money and support your wellbeing

We need to keep millions more kettles boiling, public services operating, washing machines spinning, showers running and more, so every drop is more precious than ever.
