Payroll Officer

Sheridan Maine is partnering with a well-established, multi-site organisation to recruit an experienced Payroll Officer to take responsibility for end-to-end payroll operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional with strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC compliance, and statutory payments to join a stable and growing business.

Payroll Officer – Key Responsibilities
As Payroll Officer, you will take full ownership of the payroll function, ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing across multiple sites.

• Manage end-to-end payroll for weekly and monthly payroll cycles
• Process payroll for salaried and hourly employees, including overtime and variable pay
• Administer new starters, leavers, salary changes, and payroll adjustments
• Maintain accurate payroll records including tax codes, deductions, and pension contributions
• Ensure full compliance with UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
• Submit FPS and EPS reports and manage year-end processes including P60s and P45s
• Process statutory payments including SSP and SMP
• Prepare payroll journals and support finance with reconciliations and year-end reporting
• Submit P11D and P11D(b) returns
• Respond to employee payroll queries in a timely and professional manner
• Support payroll system upgrades, data validation, and continuous process improvement
• Work collaboratively with HR and Finance to ensure payroll accuracy

Payroll Officer – Skills & Experience Required

• Proven experience in end-to-end payroll processing
• Strong knowledge of UK payroll compliance and HMRC submissions
• Experience processing statutory payments and pensions
• Advanced Excel skills
• High attention to detail and strong numerical accuracy
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
