Job Description

We are looking for a Performance Manager to join our Thames Valley North Operations Team in Wastewater,  specifically at Oxford Sewage Treatment Works at the Thermal Hydrolysis Process (THP) plant where you will based on site, working between the hours of 07:30hrs – 15:30hrs.

The process of Thermal Hydrolysis is used to increase the biodegradability of wastewater residuals, which boosts digester loading rates, increases biogas production and can then be used for producing green electricity as well as producing a biosolids product that can be used for land fertilisation. Thermal Hydrolysis is a dynamic process to manage and comes with seasonal challenges. Its assets are essential in ensuring that the wastewater stream from the site remains healthy. 
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to guide and develop a team of 10 technicians. You will steer their performance and create a positive team culture, ensuring that employee engagement is consistently high.

You will operate out of the main site at Oxford but will visit other sites making a driving licence and car owner essential.
  • 36 hours a week Monday to Friday, along with participating in an out-of-hours rota for escalations and advice for which you will receive additional payment.

What you’ll be doing as the THP Performance Manager
  • Increasing asset availability and performance within strict quality targets is key to the success of this role and will be achieved with a strong health & safety focus.
  • Health and Safety – This is our number 1 priority for everyone in our team and you will effectively lead the Health & Safety culture of the team as well as driving and creating an environment where good practices are a way of everyday life and total compliance is adhered to.
  • We need to protect our environment, and we are looking for someone who can effectively performance manage our Sewage Treatment Works site compliance by ensuring the site achieves and maintains its required plant availability and reliability to meet quality targets that are set by our regulator.
  • Driving the team to achieve optimal performance in terms of work management, along with being responsible for developing the team and introducing new skills and Health & Safety awareness.
  • Owning and managing the budgetary and financial activities of the team and driving efficiencies into the overall operational budget.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Management - ensuring exceptional service to our customers with early personal interventions as required.
What should you bring to the role?
  • An experienced people-manager with a proven track record of engaging & developing teams; ideally with site-based industrial or municipal process teams.
  • Ability to lead and achieve results in a difficult environment with a strong focus on, and good working knowledge of, health and safety.
  • Experience in managing an operational budget with a structured and proactive approach. 
  • A good communicator and competent in using IT equipment/systems and able to interpret complex Excel spreadsheets.
  • Qualifications should include an engineering HNC/HND or equivalent.
  • BOAS and/or WAMITAB qualifications will be beneficial, but training will be given to the right candidate.
  • Due to the nature of this role a full valid driving licence is needed.
