Job Description

Thames Water is seeking a Head of Planning—Bioresources to drive the development of Bioresources Plans and investment priorities. This role ensures value creation, regulatory compliance, and innovation. Collaboration is critical; you'll work closely with various functions to achieve a shared understanding of what’s needed operationally now and in the future. What you’ll be doing as the Head Of Planning - Bioresources
  • Led an effective and efficient bioresources planning team to be successful in the broader wastewater treatment business, ensuring compliance and contributing towards carbon reduction by providing an alternative energy source. 
  • Act as programme sponsor for the outcomes of investment in Bioresources in AMP8 
  • One of a small number of Company representatives to shape industry and government policy and thinking.
  • Ensure asset plans align with 2050 goals, strategic themes, and companywide plans. 
  • Proactively contributing to the Turnaround Plan—taking the initiative and visibly working cross-functionally to support work to improve asset resilience and reduce the cost of failure relating to sludge assets. 
  • Prepare for potential de-regulation; look at alternative investment funding beyond the regulatory price control framework; develop new outlets for Bioresources and influence the industry and government in policy decision-making.  
  • Develop plans to support the strategy for these challenges and critical to successful plans for PR29. 
  • Work collaboratively across the business to develop and gain funding for asset plans – e.g., for assets close to the end of life that require specific asset care plans and a clear long-term investment plan to support them. 
  • Key contributor for PR29 and gaining buy-in/ input to the development of enhancement cases and core capital maintenance allowances to deliver front-line services.
Hybrid – Clearwater Court, you will be required in the office as and when the business requires you to  
36 hours a week, Monday to Friday 

What you should bring to the role 
  • Create and champion a clear vision for the future and motivate others to follow and implement the change required to achieve that vision
  • Enthusiastic about putting our customers first every day 
  • Operated at a senior level within an asset management/investment planning role, ideally within the utilities sector
  • Demonstrable track record of leading strategic business development and change, leading business through several business planning and improvement cycles
  • Strong commercial/financial track record developed within a multi-stakeholder and regulated environment  
  • Be comfortable to liaise with all levels of external and internal stakeholders
  • Degree level or equivalent appropriate professional body qualification
  • Awareness of business skills and evidence of leading organisational change 
  • Best practice Asset Management e.g., IAM qualifications / prior work background 
  • Demonstrating success in managing and optimising Bioresources
