Job Description

We are looking for a Production Manager to join Thames Water permanently.

You will be managing a team of process and maintenance technicians.  Looking after water supplies across Reading and Newbury.

Location – Reading & Newbury.

Hours – 36 hours per week Monday – Friday 07:30 – 15:36.

Offering a salary up to £55,000 depending upon relative experience in the industry, you will receive a car allowance + an allowance for participation in an out-of-hours management and coordination roster.

What you will be doing as a Production Manager
  • Promote and maintain a zero-compromise Health, safety and well-being culture, and day-to-day coordination of resources across the area to maintain water supply.
  • Responsible for setting and complying with training plans and making sure competence assessments are undertaken for your team; The role covers controller of premise responsibilities for the site and buildings within the operational area.
  • Enable and deliver opportunities for outstanding performance, motivate and support your team
  • Provide clear direction and line management support to site and off-site-based teams in line with company policies and values. Effectively manage and proactively drive change within the function to achieve strategic goals and develop teams/individuals.
  • Proactively manage H&S within the functional environment to minimise risk and meet company and statutory obligations.
  • Drive and own regional maintenance and process performance to ensure that Regional, Production and business plan targets are met. Proactively pursue opportunities to exceed targets.
  • Make sure sites are compliant with Asset standards and operate within the guidance of the Site Operating Manuals to ensure public health and water quality standards are maintained
  • Overall area ownership of budget. Ensure annual spending is within budget. Identify cost efficiencies, and recommend, and implement improvement. Overtime, capex recharges, power, chemicals, materials, H&C, Gross Opex & PBIT, Accurate accruals on forecasting. Accurate stock control Identify and implement efficiencies Variable cost control Identify allocation of spurious costs. Obtain the most cost-effective/BVM contract with third-party suppliers to minimise the use of confirmation orders.
  • Awareness of financial control procedures.
  • Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of production plan delivery.

What should you bring to the role?
  • Previous experience in leading a high-performing team of Operational staff.
  • Good working knowledge of health and safety legislation is essential.
  • Competent in IT & internal systems and an ability to interpret reporting data.
  • Able to work in confined spaces. (training provided)
  • Practical working knowledge of water networks would be highly beneficial, allowing you to provide not only leads to your team but technical mentoring as well.
  • Ideally Degree level qualifies or an equivalent qualification in Engineering/Science.
  • Due to the nature of the role a Fully valid UK driving license is required.
